Set up your tablet as a time clock

About 5 minutes. You only do this once.

1. Connect the tablet to the clock

  1. On your phone or computer, open your office → Tablets → Set up a tablet. A 6-digit code appears.
  2. On the tablet, open the browser (Safari on iPad, Chrome on Android, Edge or Chrome on Windows) and go to the address shown with the code.
  3. Type the code. Done: your crew's names show up.
  4. Optional: add it to the home screen so it opens full screen. iPad: Share → Add to Home Screen. Android: Chrome menu ⋮ → Install app / Add to Home screen. Windows: Edge menu → Apps → Install this site as an app.

2. Lock it to the clock

iPad: Guided Access

  1. Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access → turn it on and set a passcode.
  2. Open the time clock, then triple-click the side button (or the Home button) and tap Start.
  3. To leave: triple-click again and type the passcode.

Android: App pinning

  1. Settings → Security (or Security & privacy → More) → App pinning / Pin windows → on.
  2. Open the time clock, open Recent apps, tap the app's icon at the top → Pin.
  3. To leave: hold Back and Recent apps together (or swipe up and hold), then unlock.

Windows touchscreen: kiosk mode

  1. Settings → Accounts → Other users → Set up a kiosk (Assigned access).
  2. Create a kiosk account, choose Microsoft Edge, then "As a digital sign or interactive display", and enter the time clock address.
  3. Sign in to the kiosk account: Edge opens full screen on the clock. To leave: Ctrl + Alt + Del.
  4. If the clock asks for a code again after a restart (some kiosk settings clear the browser), make a new code in Tablets. It takes 30 seconds and no punches are lost.

3. Keep it awake and charged

  1. iPad: Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock → Never.
  2. Android: Settings → Display → Screen timeout → the longest option (the clock also asks the screen to stay on).
  3. Windows: Settings → System → Power → Screen and sleep → Never when plugged in.
  4. Keep it plugged in, on a wall or counter stand, near the door.
